I currently live [mostly] in northern Minnesota, a product of leaving my apartment and enrollment at Bocconi in Milan to get married to a blonde engineer in a society entirely other than Milanese. It has been an adventure; I have learned a great deal about myself, which is more valuable than had I remained in aesthetic Europe and had climbed a high career ladder.
Be that as it may, self knowledge cannot suffice as pleasure or as savior of sanity. My children and I ski (downhill and XC) during the winter, and we bike, hike and garden in the summer. For work, I escape frequently to London, Reykjavik, Zurich and Tuscany to tank up on culture before re-immersing myself in the drab melancholy of a derelict Midwestern city. The only one up here who appreciates my Sergio Rossi flats is our dog (who has chewed through 2 pair), and the only good coffee I get is when I dream of it.
My husband is a doctor in the USA, fighting the futile battle against diabetes and obesity, while wishing for the wild ways in which he grew up (jungles of Borneo). Our two children are energetic, happy, curious people who get both adventure and stability in our little family.
My grandmother (who recently passed away) was the epitome of grace, elegance and wisdom. She was the queen of the clan, and she is the inspiration behind this blog where I express my search for a joyful balance of family, ambition, travel and mercy.

Fantastic description of yourself, L. I did not know about Bocconi.
Now, it has been a while since I wrote this.
In the meantime, I have found clusters of creative, positive people in northern Minnesota who have cast bright rays of light into life up there. Someone wonderful requested to adopt our delightful dog, so he is no longer with us (alas, not before he destroyed 3 more pairs of Sergio Rossis, leaving me none). And we have added Miami Beach to our frequented cities where we have a home.
Life goes on!
