An older friend retired this last winter and we packed up her fine china, out from the cabinet. Her set is a beautiful, simple, white collection that could be used every day. I wish she would have been using it all along; hopefully she will use it more now. What is the point of having fine china if it’s rarely used? If you have it, use it! The food will look more beautiful, you’ll eat more carefully (and more slowly). Just train your kids to be very careful with it, and they’ll learn good manners along the way.
